XS3 Support Services

Twenty years later once in a while someone needs help.

That’s OK- I am retired and I need to keep busy. There will come a time when the electronics will age out of stock, and this could complicate things, but barring thunderstorms or accidents there really is nothing to break.

One person recently wrote of the angle clamp slipping. No problem. Another has a slipping angle shaft. I’ll find and fix the problem.

NEW BASES!

XS3 machine on table

These units were sold as head assemblies only, and assumed people would use their existing bases. That’s fine, but now, however old the bases were then, they are twenty years older now.

I have just finished supplying two customers who had left hand machines with the new State-Of-the Art Brushless DC Motor driven direct drive bases.

First comment: “Insane low speed torque.”

And it’s QUIET. No slipping belts or rubber cones.

I have settled on a motor that delivers 2/3 Horsepower at up to 3,000 RPM.

For forever life I derated the 48 Volt motor to 36V.

Here is the motor running at 3,000 RPM.

Most machine manufacturers would not sell their bases to XS3 owners, and found it insulting, but Zane Hoffman at Polymetric did. He was charging $1,200 at the time. He was always a good sport about it and actually sold me the Scintillator index gears. Since that was twenty years ago, I will add $120.00 for inflation and the present reality of a modern motor and its associated electronics.
